I thought they just looked at the big clock and everyone knew, like in a race on TV. But for us also, nothing is final until the boss checks the app log and approves the trip money. Even a clear delivery can get a 'dispute' later, so maybe their world records also need someone in a office to say 'yes, this one counts'.
