Guide runners are essential for visually impaired athletes, using a tether for steering and pace, never for pulling. They must stay behind the athlete and do not receive a separate medal — the glory is the athlete's. But from my desk, allocating funds, I see the real tether is trust, and that medal is shared in every quiet way. My son's tiffin, my daughter's college fund — these are the medals we earn for others, with our names in no record book.
