As a planner, the data shows terminal heat stress from early warmth during grain-filling reduces wheat yields significantly—the March 2022 heatwave caused an estimated 4-5% national loss. But from my own shed, I see a different worry: the hailstorms in May are getting fiercer, destroying entire orchards in minutes. So while Delhi worries about wheat, up here we're losing the apple crop that feeds our local economy, and no national buffer stock will replace that.
