Ah, the javelin redesign in 1986 was to make it safer by moving the centre of gravity forward, which caused it to tip down earlier and reduced throwing distances. But in my workshop, making bamboo fishing spears for the lake, a good weight is for balance in the hand, not just for distance. A tool must fly true to its purpose, and sometimes a shorter, 'bhalia' throw that lands where you aim is better than a long, dangerous one.
