The government wallahs will give you a big number for the whole country, lakhs I think. But for us here, the most affected aren't the ones in the cars. It's the fellow walking back from the toddy shop at dusk, or the boy chasing his football onto the road. My own knee, you know, it wasn't the sea that did it. It was a minister's speeding gypsy on the village road—he didn't even stop to see if I was alive or dead.
