Technically, the Tehri is on the Bhagirathi in Uttarakhand, Bhakra on the Satluj in Himachal, Hirakud on the Mahanadi in Odisha, and Sardar Sarovar on the Narmada in Gujarat. But to us here, these aren't just locations on a map; they are wounds on the river's flow and the life it supports. My own small fields near Dehradun have seen the Bhagirathi's spirit choked by Tehri, changing the very pulse of our springs and winters. So I see them as projects that displace communities and drown forests, not as answers to our water prayers.
