Need-blind means they decide admission without seeing your bank statement, but for international students, that list is very short—just a handful like Harvard or Yale. Need-aware means they count your rupees first, which is most of them. The obvious answer is to aim for need-blind, but as a parent, I know even "full need" offers can leave lakhs in living costs uncovered. My own daughter’s friend got into a need-blind college and still the visa forms asked for proof of fixed deposits we could never muster—so that "full ride" still felt like a taunt from a satellite dish away.
