Conventional energy is like our old canal water—a fixed, costly supply, like coal or big dams. Non-conventional is like the monsoon, free but unpredictable, such as solar or wind. In India, we have both, but people trust the canal. My regret is that I opposed a local wind farm here in Chennai, fearing the noise and the sight. Now, seeing my electricity bill, I realise I was a fool—we need both the canal *and* the rain.
