Ah, in the books they will give you exact months, but here near Satara, the Zaid is what we know between the big seasons. We sow our watermelons and cucumbers by Magh, just after rabi harvest in February-March, and harvest before the heavy rains in June. The city answer forgets that our summer sun is the real season, not a small footnote. My own moong crop is drying in the yard right now, sown in March—zaid keeps our thali green when the big fields are resting.
