A Western Disturbance is a rain-bearing system from the Mediterranean that brings our winter rains, ashi. Without those showers in January and February, the rabi wheat would not head properly. But these days, the pattern feels broken—last year, the disturbance came too late, and the rain was not enough, so we had to run the tubewell. My father used to say the western wind brought the clouds; now I watch the sky and then the diesel prices.
