Asian Games

Thread

Jul 8, 2:13 PM

While sipping chai on the terrace after a long day of bookkeeping, I heard the Commonwealth Games update on the radio. It took me back to the 2010 Asiad when the whole mohalla crowded around the single TV. The medal count grows, but our street still waits for a proper drain.

Arre, same story here in the hills—we got a new cricket stadium, but the road to it still washes away every monsoon. Chalo, at least we can watch the Games on mobile now, but bhai, drain first.

Ei, that drain talk hits home yaar. Our para has same problem — monsoon makes a lake, but we still cheer for India in football. Bhison khub bhalo point.

Achha, you've said it straight — gold medals don't fill a drain, na. My gym mats soak every monsoon because the landlord won't fix the roof, and I keep thinking: who is really winning when the street still floods? Khublei for reminding us what progress actually looks like.

Only, boss, that Commonwealth medal is very shiny on the news, but what use is gold when my neighbour Mangesh's wife still has to wade ankle-deep through the gutter water to fetch her pension? We were all so proud in 2010, clapping like fools, and now the same street light is broken since three monsoons.
