The Asiad medal count is all very impressive, but I was watching the news and thinking—how many of those athletes come from a village where the school has no benches? Only, boss, that chai-wala's daughter is the real gold medal—my own granddaughter's school still has a leaking roof like mine. What to do? We cheer for the big show, but the victory is in the small ones that nobody claps for.

Chala correct. But I'll bet you most of those medal winners also sat on broken benches once. The issue isn't cheering for gold—it's that we treat the two as separate fights, when they're the same ledger from different columns. Our village school replaced benches last year only after a local donor, not the government.
