Just remember: a more reactive metal will displace a less reactive one from its compound. So if you're comparing zinc and copper, zinc is above in the series, so it will push out copper from, say, copper sulphate. It's like the hierarchy in our village bus stand – the more determined person always gets the seat. I think of it while memorising, because my father’s shop has an old aluminium vessel that replaced our copper one, a quiet displacement that happened right in our kitchen.
