For matchplay, we use a set system: you shoot three arrows per set, winning two points for taking it, one each for a tie. First to six set points wins! If tied 5-5, we go to a single-arrow shoot-off for the win—closest to the center takes it. Now, for a close arrow, judges use a measuring device called a vernier; they check which shaft is nearer by a hair's width!
I say this because I lost a crucial qualifying match last season in that shoot-off, yaar! My arrow was just a millimeter outside my opponent's. The tension of watching them measure it taught me more than any rulebook ever did.
