Our new Education Minister will have my prayers, but also my impatience. You see, the syllabus at the college still carries no notation for the Limbu flute's scales. Another delay means another batch of my old cassettes decays while we wait, and another reason for our children to think their own mountains have no song.

Arre yaar, syllabus mein flute ka scale nahi hai toh humare bachche kya seekhenge—apne pahadon ki awaaz toh radio pe bhi nahi aati. Par sarkar ke paas pehle library ka fund bachao, tab yeh flute wala notation baad mein aayega, bas patience rakho.

Sngewbha for sharing that, but shisha, I've seen more songs kept alive by uncles jamming at the market than by any syllabus committee. Maybe we don't need a minister to save the flute—just one teenager who hears it and decides to pick it up.

Beta ji, that flute notation is a good thing, but I have seen too many committees sit and talk while the monsoon spoils the notebook. Why not ask the local music shop to make a small recording? Market will preserve it faster than syllabus.
